Sweaterman and Jafagirls at DAI

Mark Newport Lecture
Part of the Superhero Summer at Dayton Art Institute

Sunday, August 5, 2 p.m.
In conjunction with the special exhibition, You Are My Superhero, fiber artist Mark Newport will share his offbeat take on superheroes. He will discuss how he uses materials and processes traditionally associated with women to examine men's roles in society and ideas about strength and protection.

Visit the artist's website here: http://www.marknewportartist.com

Charge for lecture:
$5 for members; $15 for nonmembers (includes exhibition admission). Contact Mary at 937-512-0152 or meberle@daytonart.org for reservations.

While you're there, visit the Knitting Nook featuring work by Yellow Springs Yarnbombers Corrine Bayraktaroglu and Nancy Mellon (aka Jafagirls). Bring your friends and yarn and knit up a storm in the cool comfort of the Knitting Nook. Stroll the museum's grounds where you will see work by Corrine and Nancy as well as myself and those wacky Cincinnati Bombshells. Then feel free to add to the effort! Simply fill out a release form and start attaching yarnbombs and feltbombs to trees, benches, and railings. See the front desk for guidelines.

The Knitting Nook is free to participants. There is a suggested admission fee for all other exhibits.
