Runners take your mark: Simply Women 5K July 31

YS Girls Running will present its 2nd annual Simply Women 5K run/walk for women and girls on Saturday, July 31, at Yellow Springs High School, 420 E. Enon Road, Yellow Springs, OH. Race route will be 5k (3.1 miles) through the tree-lined streets of Yellow Springs with one mid-race water station. Entry fee: $15. ArtSpace hosts "Life Paintings by Buck Truitt"

New work-of-art gallery launches Yellow Springs Experience

On Friday, July 9, the Yellow Springs Arts Council celebrated its new home and gallery at 309 Xenia Avenue with an Art Opening and Launch Party for the Yellow Springs Experience.

The opening reception for Transitions: Traces and Spaces featured a group show by artists working for the Arts Council including paintings, handmade books, and readings by Sarah Leavens. Local musicians Carl Schumacher and Gary Arnold performed together along with two other bands on the lawn of the neighboring Barr property and improvisational dance troupe Jill Becker & Friends performed in the gallery's outdoor garden.

Longtime villager Alan Macbeth, owner of the new gallery and the artist behind the construction and beautiful brickwork of the building, is thrilled with his new tenants and the new arrangement. Macbeth was spotted dancing to the music on the front porch.

The new gallery is currently serving as the Welcome Center for the Yellow Springs Experience which runs from July 9-18. For a complete list of events, visit www.yellow-springs-experience.org.
